The flyer is attached to this email as well. -- *Isha Deen-Cole DIMACS Visitor Coordinator Ishacole at dimacs.rutgers.edu 732-445-5929 * --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The *Command Control and Interoperability Center for Advanced Data Analysis *(CCICADA) at Rutgers University seeks qualified applicants for a post-doctoral research position that will emphasize evaluation of devices to thwart nuclear terrorism. CCICADA is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security National University Center of Excellence in research and education based at the DIMACS Center at Rutgers. CCICADA does independent research in advanced data analysis, optimization, machine learning and risk management related to terrorism and to natural hazards. Examples of CCICADA projects include risk assessment of regional flooding; optimal allocation of Coast Guard boat resources; studies of alerts and warnings using social media; security planning and assessment for sports venues and other security measures. CCICADA has completed more than 250 research studies since its founding, (http://ccicada.rutgers.edu/) and we encourage our postdocs to be involved in a variety of our projects. The appointment entails work with internationally recognized faculty in data science and with post-docs and graduate students at the Rutgers New Brunswick/Piscataway campus and will allow the successful applicant to take advantage of being in residence at DIMACS with its many workshops and visitors and seminars. The successful applicant will: develop and apply models assessing the effectiveness of testing protocols for devices that detect nuclear terrorist threats, participate in extramurally funded projects; develop research in the experimental assessment of algorithms for detection; write proposals; publish research; and travel as required. Starting date is expected to be some time in January 2013. Eligibility: Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, industrial engineering, operations research, or a closely related field, and background in nuclear physics or nuclear engineering will be helpful but not required. (If all required work has been completed and the thesis approved, the Ph.D. may be awaiting award by June 2013). Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and promise, regardless of nationality. The position is for one year, with renewal contingent on funding and performance.
