Greetings from the 16 Days Campaign!

We are *one week* *away* from the start of this global campaign with the 
theme: *"From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let's Challenge 
Militarism and End Violence Against Women!"*

The 16 Days Campaign would like to share with you a few reminders and 
resources as we move together toward November 25^(International Day for 
the Elimination of Violence Against Women):

Country: Suriname
Organization: Institute for Women, Gender, and Development Studies of 
the Anton de Kom University of Suriname
Activity:  TheInstitute for Women, Gender and Development Studies of the 
Anton de Kom University have organized 2 panel discussions which will be 
held simultaneously. One panel discussion is for the Law students 
interpreting the Law on domestic violence, especially violence against 
women, and the other panel discussion is for medical students pointing 
out the preventive side of domestic violence. What are the symptoms, how 
do doctors identify, and what are their actions taking into account 
their oath of secrecy.

Organization: United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL)

Activity: The UNMIL is conducting a range of activities throughout the 
course of the 16 Days Campaign -- from observing a day of prayer for 
child victims of sexual abuse to holding a Young Men's Summit to 
encourage men to take action against rape to holding peaceful sit-in 
protests. Their calendar of activities culminates with the observance of 
Human Rights Day on December 10^th .

Organization: University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

Activity: University Network Conference, large international conference, 
to be held at UTS on 21st and 22nd November. The vision of this event is 
to raise awareness on the plight of widowhood in South Asia Pacific and 
advocating creating a society where there is no discrimination on the 
basis of marital status and where widows can enjoy equity and 
inclusiveness. The conference brings together academics and 
international aid and development non-governmental organizations.This 
event is associated with the ACFID Development Futures Conference.

Organization: Women's International League for Peace and Freedom

Activity:For the 16 Days Campaign, WILPF International Secretariat will 
update its Facebook and Twitter accounts daily. We will update our cover 
photo three times (once every four working days) during the course of 
the Campaign to reflect one of each of the Campaign's three official 
themes seen from a WILPF Perspective: Violence Perpetrated by State 
Actors, Domestic Violence and the Role of Small Arms, and Sexual 
Violence during and after Conflict. In addition, at the onset of the 
campaign, WILPF International Secretariat will post one blog on our 
website detailing the mission of the Campaign, our intention to 
participate, and how others can help.

Organization: Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE)

Activity: We're running a social media campaign to raise awareness about 
different kinds of violence against women. The first part of the 
campaign will be a social experiment video highlighting violence in 
public. We will enact an abusive relationship, and see if bystanders 
take action.The second part of the campaign will be a Facebook 
application showing violence behind closed doors. Visitors will see the 
picture of an apartment block, and can click on each closed door to hear 
what's happening in the house. We have recorded audio scenes of various 
forms of violence - physical, emotional, neglect, elderly abuse, 
financial control - which will play when a user clicks on a house.

Organization: Kenaz - Desarrollo de Proyectos Sociales

Activity: Combining the 16 Days Campaign and the Orange World campaign 
of the UN,Kenaz -- Desarrollo de Proyectos Sociales plans to raise 
awareness about violence against women through taking pictures of 
messages written by school children and the general public in the color 
orange and disseminating them via social media.

Organization: US Embassy Paramaribo

Activity: In honor of International Day for the Elimination of Violence 
Against Women, and in order to raise awareness about violence against 
women and to call for an end to all forms of violence against women and 
girls, the U.S. Embassy Paramaribo would like to organize a 5K walk in

Activities: Colectivo Pactos Violeta is conducting a range of activities 
from holding an image design contest on the theme of "We Are Not Alone" 
to creating a video highlighting the violence against women, sexism, and 
misogyny seen in song lyrics and movies.

Country: Democratic Republic of Congo

Organization: REFEADES

Activity: Training 21 women grassroots leaders on how they can take 
action against violence. The training will last two days and the 
participants are the 21 women grassroots leaders from 11 villages of the 
rural territory of FIZI in the Eastern part of DRC. After the training 
the women leaders will have to go back to their grassroots and train 
back the other women in their villages.

Organization: Seminarul Teologic Ortodox "Sf Ioan Gura de Aur"

Activity: A PowerPoint presentation using facts and pictures and a film 
screening about what violence against women means will help students 
gain a deeper understanding about the issues that exist in today's world 
and will give them an idea about how they can help change these problems.

Organization: YUWA

Activity: 50 participants will hit the roads of Kathmandu with their 
cycles carrying messages related to 16 Days Activism against Gender 
Based violence. The rally will go around Kathmandu valley and assemble 
at one of the historical Durbar Squares of Valley. The participants will 
be welcomed by the team of Red Ribbon Caravan. The caravan has already 
traveled to 13 districts and has reached to more than 15000 youths with 
the message of HIV and AIDS. The team members of the caravan will share 
the messages related to HIV and AIDS and Gender Based Violence with the 
help of Music, Puppet Show, Quizzes and symbolic dance.

Organization: MensWork: Eliminating Violence Against Women and Muhammad 
Ali Center

Activity: The "Shining a Light: Working Together To End Violence Against 
Women" is an international photo exhibit depicting the implications and 
affects of violence against women and girls, and the community-based 
grassroots efforts to combat violence against women and girls. More than 
60 photos were submitted, and 23 have been chosen to be a part of this 
groundbreaking exhibit.

Activity: The Women Engaged in Action on 1325 will launch the 
publication of the CSO Monitoring Research on the implementation of the 
Philippine National Action Plan (P-NAP) on UN Security Resolutions 1325 
and 1820. The P-NAP was adopted in March 2010. Hence, monitoring the 
status of implementation will be useful to celebrate achievements, 
identify gaps and guide stakeholders on the way forward.

Organization: The Crazy Challenge

Activity: In an effort to inspire young people to reach for their goals, 
raise awareness about the abuse of women and children, and raise funds 
for two excellent non-profit organizations in Limpopo, I will run 1850km 
from Cape Town (Parliament) to Nkowa-Nkowa (Stadium) in 32 days during 
the government's 16 Days of Activism Against the Abuse of Women and 
Children Campaign and also raising awareness of HIV & Aids.

Organization: The Vienna Project

Activity: The Vienna Project will be the first public art memorial of 
its kind in Europe and the first public naming memorial in Vienna to 
symbolically represent, in a differentiated format, the multiple groups 
of persecuted victims of National Socialism, while also naming 
individual victims and dissidents on record within a given country, 
murdered between 1938-1945.

Organization: Women Living Under Muslim Laws

Activity: 16 Days Narrative of a Network: Blog posts from around the 
world telling the stories and sharing the voices of female activists 
within our network. These posts will give an insight to hitherto unknown 
work, lives, and views of our women human rights' defenders. We will 
upload one blog post per day throughout the sixteen days. We aim to 
reflect the diversity of feminist struggles within our network and 
around the world.
