*American Library Association Recognizes CWGL’s Poster Collection*


/New Brunswick, NJ, March 5, 2012/—The Margery Somers Foster Center, 
Rutgers University Libraries, in collaboration with the Department of 
Women’s and Gender Studies and the Center for Women’s Global Leadership 
(CWGL), both of the School of Arts and Sciences, were awarded the 2012 
Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Women and Gender 
Studies Section (WGSS) Award for Significant Achievement in Woman’s 
Studies Librarianship. The WGSS award honors a significant or one-time 
contribution to women’s studies librarianship. For details see full

Kayo Denda, Alicia Graham, Rhonda Marker and Li Sun of Rutgers 
University Libraries and Kirsten Canfield and Lucy Vidal of CWGL were 
recognized for their work on the Poster Collection portal 
<>, which provides 
digitized access to approximately 300 posters published by women’s 
rights organizations worldwide and housed at CWGL.The posters chronicle 
20 years of transnational women’s activism and advocacy, while 
documenting evolving issues of the global women’s movement.A plaque will 
be presented to the awardees on June 28^th during the American Library 
Association’s annual conference in California.

to historians and scholars interested in the history of women’s 
activism. Thisdigitalrepositoryhoused in RUcore, the Rutgers Community

visible an entire chapter of the women’s movement,”noted School of Arts 
and Sciences Executive Dean Douglas Greenberg.Professor Radhika 
Balakrishnan, CWGL’s executive director said, “Rutgers University 
Libraries and CWGL have an extensive history of collaborative 
partnership. The support from the Rutgers’ Academic Excellence Fund and 
the commitment of Rutgers University librarians and faculty, such as 
Professor Mary Hawkesworth, were instrumental in the realization of this 
project. As a result we are able to make the collection available to the 
world, while documenting the visual history of the global women’s
