Take Two to Toronto!
Though young people are particularly vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, they are
often left out of international conferences and decision-making
processes. The Guttmacher Institute believes that it is important for
the voices of young people to be heard in discussions of how to combat
the AIDS pandemic. We are sponsoring four young leaders from
Sub-Saharan Africa to attend the XVI international AIDS Conference in
Toronto this August as part of our Protecting the Next Generation
If your organization has not yet sponsored a young person to participate
in AIDS 2006, please consider doing so. The Toronto YouthForce, a
coalition of youth and HIV/AIDS advocates, is organizing a free
pre-conference for youth to prepare them for meaningful participation in
the main conference. Including meals, lodging and registration fees,
the cost of sponsoring a young person is estimated to be about $3,500.
You can register a young leader at any time by going to the conference
website: www.aids2006.org <http://www.aids2006.org/> . All registered
youth will receive an invitation to participate in the pre-conference.
To find a young leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS who is active in
your country, go to www.youthaidscoalition.org/profiles. To secure
cheap housing for a young person or if you have any other questions
about sponsoring a young person to attend AIDS 2006, contact
youth at aids2006.org.
